The portable workspace device segment has been largely dominated by Apple with their range of MacBook laptops for a long timt but the scene sure seems to be changing now. With new and old competitors stepping into the game with much more to offer, Apple is facing stiff competition now. Talking abiut the current scenario, Apple’s new offering the 2016 MacBook Pro has 2 new opponents to stand up to: the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 and the Samsung ATIV Book 9 Pro. So should you sell MacBook if you happen to own one and get one of these two devices? Lets find out.
Talking about the performance, all three devices are excellent. The ATIV Book 9 Pro is powered by a Intel Core i7 6700HQ processor and an optional NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950M graphics card paired with 8 GB of RAM. Talking about the other competitors, the Surface Pro 4 boasts of some impressive specs too. It comes equipped with the sixth generation Intel i5 paired with 8 GB of RAM on the entry level models while the high end models are equipped with Intel i7 with 16 GB of RAM. All the models also have the option of a NVIDIA GeForce GPU with 1GB GDDR5. The MacBook offers similar configurations with the smaller models featuring a dual-core Intel i5 and the high end models sporting the i7. RAM of upto 16 GB is available on all the models.
The ATIV Book 9 Pro features the best and the biggest screen of the three devices with a size of 15.6 inches and a 4K resolution of 3820 X 2160 pixels. The Surface Pro 4 features a 13.5 inch screen with a 3000 X 2000 resolution while the 15.5 inch MacBook boasts of 2880 X 1800 resolution.
The ATIV Book 9 Pro and the Surface Pro 4 both offer SSD storage with option of 256 GB and 128 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB respectively. MacBook on the other hand offers options of upto 1 TB but with flash storage and not SSD.
In the race for the battery life, the Surface Pro 4 is the clear winner with the company claiming upto 12 hours of usgae time. On a comparitive note, the 15 inch MacBook offers 9 hours of usage while the ATIV Book 9 Pro manages 6.5 hours.
